Dessert wines have high sugar contents, making them popular choices with or as dessert. They can be sweetened
in many different ways, including harvesting the grapes very late when sugar levels are high or drying the grapes on
straw mats to concentrate the sugars.
We at ENO invite you to taste our stellar dessert wines, including:
-
Madeira - Perhaps the most durable wine in the world. It's either artificially heated or, for the
best flavor, stored in a hot attic. This results in a unique, delicious wine. The vino is named for the
island of Madeira, a Portuguese possession in the Atlantic Ocean.
-
Port - Sweetened by the grapes growing in Portugal's Douro River Valley. Port is composed of
approximately 40 grape varieties, most of which are red. Traditionally accompanies walnuts and cheese.
-
Sherry - A fortified wine from the area surrounding Jerez, Spain. Made primarily from the Palomino
grape. Sherries run from completely dry, light "finos" to nutty "amontillado" to rich "oloroso." An open bottle
of Sherry will last virtually forever.
- Vermouth - A fortified wine flavored with herbs.
