Blind Tasting

Posted December 28, 2008 in Wine, Wine Everywhere

We recently started hosting “blind” tastings on Sundays at our Chicago Intercontinental location. The guests choose either a white or red flight. They are poured and given a wine card to jot down notes. We give points based on guessing the correct varietal, country, region, and year. We give an extra point for more specific answers. The closer the guest is to correct, the cheaper the flight. So far it has been a great success. More important, it is fun. It helps create a relaxed atmosphere for our guests to ask questions and learn about new varietals they may have not tried before or didn’t realize they liked. Do you have any idea how many people stopped drinking Merlot after the movie Sideways but don’t know why? Keep checking our blog for more info about our blind flights and our upcoming anniversary party. We are going to give away a magnum of Patz and Hall Pisoni Ranch Pinot Noir to the guest who has the highest blind flight score. Can you think of anything better?
